Sammamish Mom Throws Fish to Reel in Kids' Dreams

She may not be able to tell a Salmon from a Sea Bass, but this Saturday Sammamish Mom Anne Ginther is strapping on the waders, catching fish at world famous Pike Place Market, all because she wants to boost the power of kids to change the world. Ginther is a finalist for a $25,000 grant  for  an all-volunteer   nonprofit organization she started  that helps kids help others called RandomKid (www.randomkid.org).   She's trying to collect 25,000 votes online by November 24th to provide seed funds for kids to launch their dreams for others.  Offering funny incentives inspired by children to get out the vote, one child who got her 100 votes now wants her to throw fish.

"Whether it's helping a friend battling cancer, supporting soldiers, or building a Habitat Home," Ginther said, "I want to show these kids that I'll do anything to get out the vote to support their big, giving hearts."

Ginther started a nonprofit four years ago with the belief that any "random kid" has the power to solve real world problems.   The first child she helped, Talia Leman age 10, ended up unifing kids across the USA, collectively raising over $10 Million dollars for Hurricane relief after Hurricane Katrina.  Today, RandomKid brings kids of all backgrounds and abilities together to address issues their communities face. Matching their passion with direct impact projects that they choose—kids are changing their communities in all sorts of ways.  In Sammamish, Ginther is currently helping a group of kids who want to help those those hit hardest by the economy. The kids are planning a "gently used" toy sale, in hopes that the lower prices will help families struggling financially.  They plan to turn the proceeds over to Seattle's "First Place"-- an organization that helps homeless children, and families at risk of being homeless.

"Every small investment we make in these kids not only has a real, measurable return on investment," Ginther said, "But the promise of a new and bigger generation of caring people that is priceless."
