Sell Tacos Not Children

Mission To raise awareness and funds for the prevention of human trafficking through the sale of "Sell Tacos, Not Children" T-shirts Description The motto, “Sell Tacos, Not Children!” was created in an attempt to combat human trafficking in the country of Belize. Its purpose is to: • Raise awareness for human trafficking • Raise funds for the Child Development of Belize. Sell Tacos Not Children was started by a college student after a trip to Belize made her aware of the issue of human trafficking. After seeing the effects of it first hand, she decided she wanted to do more. The mission team she was traveling with had donated shirts with the slogan "Sell Tacos, Not Children" on them to the Child Development Foundation of Belize, to help with fundraising. Not too long after she was home, she adopted the slogan and began to sell T-shirts and Bracelets with the quote. In the summer of 2012, she traveled back to Belize to serve the country on a third international mission trip. While she was there, she was able to meet. the director and founder of CDF, spend time in prayer with the staff, and see first hand how CDF of Belize operates. The Child Development Foundation is a Christian non- profit organization seeking to mobilize community-based organizations on the growing issue of the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children in Belize. Studies have shown that children as young as twelve are being sexually exploited by their parents to obtain an economic reward. Not enough is being done to protect the rights of these children or provide rehabilitation for them. CDF along with its partners are seeking to provide a safe place for the children of Belize. more

Shoes for Soldiers

Shoes for Soldiers was thought up with our soldiers in mind. As you know, there are many injuries that our soldiers go through. Some of them resulting in amputations or prosthetic legs. This can be a very hard time for soldiers and their families. We want to make a difference by creating this project. So, what is Shoes for Soldiers? Simple, we design a Sharpie shoe (like Converse or Vans) with a one-of-a-kind design. The catch? We only design one. Instead of designing two (a right and a left) shoes, we only design one of them. This is to represent the soldiers who have to live with prosthetic arms or legs or anything else or amputations. It's a great and stylish way to help out people who fight for our country. With the money we raise, we will donate to the Wounded Warrior Project. One stylish shoe not your thing? You can also help by donating money to help us further our cause. Any amount is greatly accepted. Or, you can also purchase a pair to donate to a soldier. If you know someone currently serving or was serving, you can get their name drawn on the shoe! Living or deceased, we appreciate all our soldiers. Our goal is to raise $25,000 by June 30, 2014. Any monetary donations are a valuable source, other donations including plain, white, canvas shoes (such as Converse or Vans), Sharpies or permanent markers, and other supplies that you think we may need are also amazing! This is a great way for anyone to help out :) more

Socks for Soldiers

We are dedicated to helping make our country a better place, and this is a great place for you to help us! Socks for Soldiers was thought up with our soldiers in mind. As you know, there are many injuries that our soldiers go through. Some of them resulting in amputations or prosthetic legs. This can be a very hard time for soldiers and their families. We want to make a difference by creating this project. So, what is Socks for Soldiers? Simple, we design a stylish sock with a one-of-a-kind design. The catch? We only design one. Instead of designing two (a right and a left) socks, we only design one of them. This is to represent the soldiers who have to live with prosthetic arms or legs or anything else or amputations. It's a great and stylish way to help out people who fight for our country. Each sock represents the leg that a soldier lost (in which their name may be on). With each pair we sell, we will give a designed sock to an amputee soldier. We will donate a portion of the money we raise to the Wounded Warrior Project. One stylish sock not your thing? We have gloves too! You can also help by donating money to help us further our cause. Any amount is greatly accepted. Or, you can also purchase a sock or glove to donate to a soldier. If you know someone currently serving or was serving, you can get their name drawn on the sock or glove! Living or deceased, we appreciate all our soldiers. Our goal is to raise $25,000 by June 30, 2014. Any monetary donations are a valuable source, other donations including plain, white, knee-high socks, Sharpies or permanent markers, white gloves, tie-dye equipment and other supplies that you think we may need are also amazing! This is a great way for anyone to help out :) more

Soldier Calls

More than 150,000 troops are serving overseas. Cell Phones for Soldiers is calling on all Americans to support the troops by donating old cell phones. Cell Phones for Soldiers hopes to collect over 50,000 unused cell phones this year. Proceeds will be used to purchase calling cards for our troops so they can stay connected with their families. Without raising a PENNY, we can positively impact the troops' morale and their families' morale. To place a smile on a soldier's face, and the faces of their families, is priceless. I am collecting used cell phones that will be recycled with Cell Phones or Soldiers for pre-paid calling cards that will be given to Soldiers that are overseas. The recycling effort also significantly improves the long-term effects on the environment. more

SomaliWater

There are hundreds of people who are dying from lack of clean water. We need to help them! We can do this by desalination. In Somalia, many people live on the coast, in the desert. They need fresh, clean water, and if we can desalinate the ocean water, they can get all the water they need. I want to buy them a Solar Cube 3500. "Spectra Solar Seawater System produces 3500 Liters of pure fresh water a day from ocean water or saline wells. Utilizing Spectra’s proprietary Clark Pump technology, the system can produce more water with less energy than any other small scale system available today. The desalination system operates efficiently, quietly and reliably for thousands of hours without major service. The system is specifically designed to be rugged and reliable for operation in remote conditions." http://www.spectrawatermakers.com/solarcube/index.html I really would like to help people who are dying in Somalia because of water problems. more

SOO....Save Our Oceans

Save Our Oceans Project The students developing this project attend The Foundation Academy and are currently working on the TFA sponsored Jacksonville Science Festival. The Science Festival is a yearly event that the students produce in their PIBL (Project Inquiry Based Learning) class, which incorporates language arts, social studies, visual and performing arts, along with science. The event is completely non-profit and is meant to educate the community through student initiative. It lasts three days and there’s no cost to attend. The students cover many facets of science every year with projects on mechanical science, psychological science, and of course, marine science, just to name a few. This year in particular the festival will be held at the FSCJ south campus for two days and at the Museum of Science and History in downtown Jacksonville for the final day. There you can vote for your favorite booth (the winning group gets a cash prize). The students involved with the festival also have opportunities to earn scholarships through their hard work on their projects for the festival. The festival is entertaining for all ages, with many of the booths featuring hands-on interactive elements, which are completely designed by the students. In fact, unlike most science festivals, the students, rather than adults, are the experts. SOO -- the Save Our Oceans project -- is a class effort. Students research various organisms such as Sea Turtles, Great White Sharks, Polar Bears, and Right Whales, and the threats they face. The purpose of the Anti-Bottle campaign is to raise awareness of threats caused by carbon-based products and the masses of trash in our oceans. more
