Red Alert Dogs for Diabetics

-Founded by Mark Rinkel, age 13

When my brother was 9 years old he was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease called type 1 diabetes.  My whole family was devastated.  In just  a few short months my brother had more than 3,000 shots and blood tests.  When we learned that dogs could be trained to detect dangerous low blood sugar we were excited because kids like dog a  whole lot more than shots.

My project, Red Alert Dogs for Diabetics (named after my brother's dog Red), is helping kids all across the U.S. and Canada get service dogs.  Donating to my project helps buy approved puppies, and pay for training, vet bills, dog food, and service dog vests, and has even helped pay for legal aid to ensure that children have the right to bring their service dog to school.
