Here at RandomKid, we believe each and every child has a cool-ness factor within their hearts. It's that thing that makes them smile at another person or lend a helping hand to someone... it's that innate goodness. That is worth celebrating! A Nine-Year-Old Who Has the Power to Make Things Happen!

Emma has a friend named Rachel. Rachel's mom Marilyn has stage 4 cancer. When the cancer came back for a third time, Marilyn made it a goal to learn how to play the piano with Rachel and her sister Katie. Trouble is, this time the cancer was on the brain (in addition to the liver and bones). Marilyn had a seizure--therefore she can't drive. Marilyn called around trying to find lessons and wasn't having much luck. That's where the RockStar power of Emma came in.

Emma engaged RandomKid for help. She wrote on her registration, "I don't want Rachel and her sister to be scared about their mom being sick. Maybe they could learn to play the piano with their mom. They would all be happy doing that, and maybe not be so scared or sad."

RandomKid thought it was pretty cool that Emma wanted to help. So we did what we could to help Emma make this a huge surprise that her friend would never forget. We put RandomResearchers and RandomDoGooders to work. When others heard about Emma's plan, they couldn't jump on board fast enough. We even had some RandomCelebrities lend a hand! Rachel's dad and Emma's mom were part of the elite team that was in on the secret.

Rachel and Katie and their mom thought it was a little odd that dad, Randy, told the family to take a day off to visit Emma's school (she and Rachel go to different schools). As Emma was annointed a "RandomRockStar" things started to become clear.

are wondering WHY they got to play hookie from school today!

Emma stepped up to the podium and addressed hundreds of K-12 students at VanMeter Community School in VanMeter, Iowa, PLUS the throngs of Media. "As the newest Random RockStar I am granting your wish," Emma began. "Because I asked for it, you will now have piano lessons in your home every other week for a year! And right after this event, you'll get your first PIANO lesson from A SURPRISE GUEST and then MY Limo will take us all to a nice restaurant for a celebration lunch!" The sound of the cameras clicking close ups of Emma were muffled by the cheers of all the onlookers.

And then Emma shouted with great enthusiasm, "Ladies and Gentleman... direct from Branson, Missouri, one of Branson's 'best new singing groups', please put your hands together for….. The Warnocks!!!!"

It was Marilyn's FAVORITE music group--playing for her--because of Emma.

The Hoys were BLOWN away! A member of the Des Moines Symphony and another seasoned piano professional promised to take turns coming to the Hoys' house for a year to provide them piano lessons.

After the Warnocks had a little fun putting Mr. Hoy front and center. Marilyn and her daughters were treated to their very first piano lesson by one of the Warnocks!

And then after the lesson, the Hoys, Emma and her mom, and the piano teachers were escorted to their limousine and whisked off to an unbelieveable feast fit-for-a-rockstar--thanks to Biaggi's Restaurant. When we were introducing the Hoys to their piano teachers, Marilyn commented that she thought one of the teachers wasn't accepting more students--to which the teacher replied (paraphrasing here): "True, but this nine-year-old RockStar was able to pull some strings for you!"

What does it mean to be a RandomRockstar? It means that you are CENTER STAGE that day! We have a network of RandomParents, RandomGoGetters, and RandomDoGooders who are ready for our RandomCall. They'll help us give you a day you won't soon forget!

What's the catch? You just need to be a registered RandomKid so we have a way of contacting your parents, getting their permission, and then planning the special day for you!

If it's not a contest, then how am I selected? Randomly! The point is that YOU are valued as you are today!

Why do this? In celebrating children for their unique RandomNess, there's no better way than to pick a RandomKid and make a big deal out of him or her. That way, any RandomKid can think, "I could be next," "That could be me," "I am worth celebrating!"
