RandomRockstar Sarah
A 14-Year-Old With a Product to Make MOUNTAINS of Money to Build Habitat for Humanity Homes in the Wake of the 2005 Hurricane Devastation

One year after Katrina hit the gulf coast, Sarah participated in a national teleconference to report what she and her school did to help their neighbors in the gulf. When she heard a couple of hurricane survivor children on the call say they STILL don't have homes, and they're STILL not back in their regular school, she enlisted RandomKid to help her do more.
Sarah wrote on her RandomKid Registration form, "I want to house 10 families and raise money for the New Orleans people's life to be better than it was before the hurricane. And other than that, I mostly just want to do my part in making the world a better place."
There were many other RandomKids on that call who wanted to help people all
along
the gulf coast, so they united their efforts and created the RandomKid National Task Force to Rebuild the Gulf. The kids have partnered with Habitat for Humanity International's Operation Home Delivery, to help them raise a lot of money and awareness to help rebuild the gulf. And they continue to help a number of other hurricane-relief related charities, as well as schools and individual families.
Sarah came up with a product idea to raise money to build Habitat for Humanity homes in the gulf, and help further kids' goals for a better tomorrow via RandomKid. Her idea: carabiners, the things that mountain climbers use to hook their ropes on. "Older kids love them, and younger kids love what older kids love."
Sarah's team even came up with an idea to encourage kids to collect them: Make them into the shape of homes, and put a different letter on each chimney--collect all 5 and spell the word "HOMES."
Sarah has learned a lot in the process: She has learned about manufacturing, distribution, product fulfillment, and a whole lot of other things.
Sarah needs a corporate partner! Sarah also learned that retailers need several months to be able to get a product in their stores. She's hoping that a corporation will step forward to help with product fulfillment, because the carabiners will be featured in a Family Circle Magazine article in their Holiday issue coming out in mid-December. "They have 20 Million Readers, which could mean a lot of orders! If I need to get a bunch of friends to help me stuff envelopes with carabiners on the weekend, I will, but I want to get these out as fast as I can, because they'll make great gifts for the holidays!" Sarah said.

RandomKid's 11-year-old co-founder,Talia, has already purchased the first lot with the $2000 award she recently won from the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes. Says Sarah, "We just need to find a way to get them to all the different people who will order them. Can you help us?"
Sarah wants to be sure it is noted: Carabiners are used to climb mountains, and we are climbing a big mountain to try to build 40,000 homes! One carabiner at a time we are going to get to the TOP! If you help us, we can start giving these kids HOMES, maybe some in time for the holidays, and this is the thing they want most in the world.
Sarah is also taking on the role of "National Spokesperson" for RandomKid. Keep your eyes out for this Random RockStar--her light is going to be shining bright for a long time to come!
If you know of a corporation that can help with product fulfillment, please email RandomKid president Anne Ginther.
If you'd like to purchase one or several of these cool carabiners, please stop by our RandomStore.

Sarah, Talia, Lanna (front), and Emma are all Random RockStars continuing to do great things on RandomKid's National Taskforce to Rebuild the Gulf. They've already sold hundreds of carabiners at each of their schools in just one week!
RandomQuestions
What does it mean to be a RandomRockstar? It means that you are CENTER STAGE that day! We have a network of RandomParents, RandomGoGetters, and RandomDoGooders who are ready for our RandomCall. They'll help us give you a day you won't soon forget!
What's the catch? You just need to be a registered RandomKid so we have a way of contacting your parents, getting their permission, and then planning the special day for you!
If it's not a contest, then how am I selected? Randomly! The point is that YOU are valued as you are today!
Why do this? In celebrating children for their unique RandomNess, there's no better way than to pick a RandomKid and make a big deal out of him or her. That way, any RandomKid can think, "I could be next," "That could be me," "I am worth celebrating!"
