RandomKid CEO and Original Random Rockstar, Talia
A 10-Year-Old Iowa girl who demonstrated "The POWER of ANYone" and created RandomKid!
With no "connections" and no money, Talia set out to raise a million dollars for hurricane relief in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. She wrote a plan in number 2 pencil on school paper. She garnered corporate support. She started rallying K-12 students across the USA via an email campaign and a website where kids reported their own unique fundraising efforts. Iowa's Governor Vilsack held a news conference with her and promised her he'd contact all the governors across the USA and ask them to help get the word out. Her movement, called "Trick or Treat for the Levee Catastrophe" or TLC, has been featured on the Today Show, NPR, ABC, CNN and MSNBC. UNICEF is calling Talia a "True World Hero" and appointed her their first (known) National Youth Ambassador .
Throughout her campaign, Talia spearheaded projects that EMPOWERED children to truly make a difference. She got hundreds of kids in Iowa to write letters and color pictures for kids in a Baton Rouge shelter. She got a local Wal Mart to donate $1600 worth of gift cards and shopped with friends for those children. The purchased items and the letters were then delivered by adult volunteers to the shelter in mid-October. Talia's movement held a "Job Fair" at the shelter--where the kids could hire themselves and help work on many aspects of the campaign to help with hurricane relief charities. Little ones colored pictures of what they saw in the hurricane. Older kids joined the correspondence team. And for what appeared to be the first time since their lives were turned upside down, these kids got a connection to the outside world. They read letters from kids far away who cared deeply about what happened to them. Tough talking teenagers wiped tears from their cheeks as they read some of the letters. They wrote back. Kids made "thank you posters" to hang back in the schools in Iowa. One girl drew a lot of dead bodies and a broken heart. With her o.k., a TLC adult volunteer drew a Band-Aid over the heart and told her that millions of people want to help them mend.

This "stationary" was made by a 6 year old TLC artist in a Baton Rouge shelter. Talia used it to write a thank-you letter to Iowa's Governor for his support. Governor Vilsack now has it proudly displayed on his fridge.
This RandomKid from a small RandomTown in the middle of Iowa ended up being in the middle of a national youth rally for hurricane relief that has raised more than $10 Million Dollars (and counting!) for a variety of hurricane relief charities. Talia's contribution to that total was $220,000. As she continues her work with UNICEF, Talia also serves as the CEO of RandomKid (for which she has recognized by many organizations for her successes), and will be the first to tell you that ANYone is SOMEone!

RandomQuestions
What does it mean to be a RandomRockstar? It means that you are CENTER STAGE that day! We have a network of RandomParents, RandomGoGetters, and RandomDoGooders who are ready for our RandomCall. They'll help us give you a day you won't soon forget!
What's the catch? You just need to be a registered RandomKid so we have a way of contacting your parents, getting their permission, and then planning the special day for you!
If it's not a contest, then how am I selected? Randomly! The point is that YOU are valued as you are today!
Why do this? In celebrating children for their unique RandomNess, there's no better way than to pick a RandomKid and make a big deal out of him or her. That way, any RandomKid can think, "I could be next," "That could be me," "I am worth celebrating!"
