For me, 9/11 changed my life forever. Like most Americans, I was shocked, angry, sad, and very frustrated. I wanted to channel my emotions into doing something productive and meaningful, but I wasn’t sure what. After watching and reading heart-wrenching stories of innocent Afghan children and their families caught in the cross-fire of war, I felt an immediate connection and knew that somehow, I was supposed to help them in some way. Through the internet and newspaper stories, I learned about an organization called Help the Afghan Children and an incredible Afghan-American woman, Suraya Sadeed, who was doing amazing, heroic work in helping Afghan children. I contacted them, first becoming an outreach volunteer on the West Coast where I lived, then joining their volunteer board of directors. Still, I needed to do more. My dream was to create a job where I could utilize my skills, knowledge, abilities, and experiences helping the children of Afghanistan in a more direct way. In November of 2005, that dream became a reality and I joined the HTAC team in Virginia where I am today, along with my wife.

– HTAC is a very special organization. We work directly with organizations and people IN AFGHANISTAN including school officials, members of local communities, parents, and teachers so any work you do (at your school or in your community in supporting us), will have a direct and immediate impact on the children at our schools. HTAC is innovative. We were the first organization to introduce computer literacy in Afghan public schools and we enroll an average of 10,000 students in our programs every year. We were among the first to provide peace and environmental education programs as well- teaching values and skills that are already having a huge impact in our schools and communities. We’re not a big organization so your voice and input will not be lost.
