Introducing Debra Kahn of Amman Imman: Water is Life

My name is Ariane Kirtley. I am the Founder and Director of Amman Imman: Water is Life, which works to save lives among some of the world's poorest people. I studied medical anthropology and public health at Yale University. During my Fulbright Scholarship while conducting a health study, I discovered the Azawak. Mothers begged me, "Please help us save our babies from dying." I tried to get the help of large humanitarian organizations, but no one seemed concerned about the 500,000 people living in the Azawak. I could not turn my back. I started Amman Imman: Water is Life so that the children I grew to love in the Azawak could have a future. My name is Debra Kahn. For many years, I worked with young children at a school, both as a teacher and an administrator. I believe that children have the potential to be powerful, especially when they care about something. After I heard Ariane's plea to help bring water to the Azawak, I founded the Wells of Love service learning program. I wanted to give kids an opportunity to help, and connect with the people of the Azawak. Students in Montessori schools helped us build two deep, deep wells that now brings water to over 50,000 people and animals. I love giving young people an opportunity to take action where it matters most

What you can experience through this

Participating youth can raise funds towards building a “RandomKid Well of Love” in the Azawak. Or you can choose to work toward budiling an Oasis of Life named for your school or community. Through our service learning program, Wells of Love, you will join our Heroes of Compassion – kids around the world who take action as caring philanthropists. You can design your own creative fundraising campaign, or you can use our specially-designed kits to organize a campaign in your community or at your school. We will post your story, photos and videos on our blog and websites. Through our Friendship Exchange, we will share photos, letters and gifts between you and the children you are helping.
