reading is light

My name is Nigel Sumbuk. I am from PNG (Papua New Guinea). My country has a population of about 7million people. Most people in PNG live in villages. I would say about 80%. In this 80% about 80% cannot or do not have access to schools. This means they cannot read properly or do not read at all. My mum and sister are helping me with this project. We would like you to donate funds, which we think is the easiest. This will assist us to buy books and pay for the transport cost here in PNG for designated schools. We will also assist The Voice Inc www.thevoicepng.org on one of their book drive activity. I am sure it would be fun for me but I would also like to assist children like me who have limited access to books Please donate NIGEL SUMBUK more

Rehabilitating Street Children back to Class

Recently, efforts have been made in Kenya to promote education as the key to helping children overcome poverty, improve their lives and change their communities. This however has proved difficult to have as many children in schools as majority because of poverty stays out of school. The problem of rapid urbanization in Kenya has had profound negative effects, especially with regard to its effects on children and families. People have been struggling disproportionately with the ill effects of growing urbanization, economic instability, pandemic outbreaks of disease, and dire poverty. This project intends to provide access to reading materials to children from poor families in the slums who because of lack of text book perform poorly in their national examinations and thus make them to drop out of school. The project entail putting up library facilities in public and community schools to allow access to as many children to access reading materials and reading space. more

Rhino Letter Writing Campaign

One More Generation (OMG) founders Olivia and Carter are working on a letter writing campaign where they are trying to get 1,000 kids from all over the world to send us letters addressed to the President of South Africa asking him to get more involved with stopping poaching of Rhino's for their horn. Unless the South African government quickly gets involved, the Rhino species is guaranteed to go extinct in our lifetime. This is an amazing opportunity to show kids (and adults) of all ages that they can make a difference and if successful, they can someday tell their kids that they were instrumental in saving this species from extinction. You can read more on our site at the link below. Our goal is to collect 1,000 letters and personally deliver them to the President of SA early next year. Carter and Olivia are already scheduling presentations at various schools when they are back in session and we are also looking to reach out to churches and any other community group where we can address a large audience. If you know of any organization who might be interested in receiving a copy of the presentation, please let us know and we can easily sent it to them. Dear President Zuma, (http://onemoregeneration.org/2012/07/20/dear-president-zuma/) Please let us know if you think you can help in any way. We also encourage you to send us your own letter because as you know, every voice counts. Thanks again for all your continued support, we look forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards from the entire OMG Team ;-) Jim more
