Teens For Life

Welcome to Teens For Life! No, not "WHOO! I'm going to be 16 FOREVAAAA!!!!" But more so teens for the pro-life belief. We've heard it on the news, from our friends and family, and just about everywhere, but what *is* pro-life? Well, simply put, it's a belief that life is a precious gift that should be available to anyone. Now, I know what you're probably thinking, "Oh, these are the people who think that women shouldn't have any rights and that everyone is a baby murderer." And that is completely wrong :) Pro-life is a belief that has been warped and twisted by media and media focusing on the extremists. So what's our point? We want to show the real belief of pro-life. Our organization is dedicated to showing teens the pro-life belief. We want to raise awareness for what pro-life really is. Here are some major myths of pro-life beliefs: Myth #1: Pro-life only pertains to abortion. --->Actually, pro-life isn't just about abortion. There are many factors. Things like euthanasia to elderly, and even murder can create a pro-life belief. Abortion is the most highlighted thing in the media, and therefor, a lot of people channel themselves towards the abortion cause. Lot's of people don't even know what euthanasia is. Well, euthanasia is when a doctor (or someone with the drugs available) will use medications to kill an elderly person. This is similar to putting down a dog. There are a lot of reasons for choosing euthanasia including the family not wanting to care for the person. Myth #2: People who are Pro-life are anti-women's rights. --->This is a major argument of people are aren't pro-life. People are led to believe that since pro-life means eliminating abortion and birth control/contraceptives, that they are taking away a woman's right to choose her life. People think that since pro-life beliefs lead to eliminating things that lead to the end of a pregnancy or blocking the conception, that w more

The

The "Stow It-Don't Throw It" project works to mobilize youth to protect marine wildlife from the dangers of improperly disposed of monofilament fishing line, which can take up to 600 years to break down in the environment. Fishing line entanglement injures or kills many marine organisms every year, including dolphins, sea turtles, manatees, sea lions, whales, and birds. Youth involved in the "Stow It-Don't Throw It" Project work to assemble and distribute personal-sized fishing line recycling bins to anglers and boaters. These bins are made out of recycled tennis ball containers, and are designed to serve as an intermediate step for anglers to safely store their used fishing line before they can later get it to a larger monofilament recycling bin and properly dispose of it. The program also works to engage youth in preventing plastic pollution and other forms of marine debris, and provides them with support to launch their own ocean conservation projects. We're excited to have the opportunity to raise funds for this program through the Anti-Bottle project, while helping to prevent plastic pollution by encouraging the public to purchase reusable water bottles! more

THP Anti-Bottle Campaign

OUR MISSION As a group, we have to goals; to LEARN and to DO. What do we mean by that? We learn by attending workshops, listening to guest speakers, and visiting NGOs. We get to learn how these organizations function, and we are able to model ourselves after them. Then, with our new knowledge, we go out and do something. This can be small, like holding a fundraiser for an orphanage, or big, like collecting shoes for an entire mountain community. What is important, and different, is that this is entirely student driven. For example this is how we operate; first, we chose a topic. Let’s say the topic is Global Health. We contact any one or any organization we can in order to learn more about the topic; in this case, maybe Red Cross or USAID. Then we go out and do something; volunteer with a medical brigade, or hold a fundraiser to benefit a hospital. This way, we are not only experienced in a certain area, but learned as well. more
